Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl

Beautiful CreaturesBlurb: Lean Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she’s struggling to conceal her power and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps, and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.

Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town’s oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them. In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.

My Thoughts: This love story is told through Ethan. However, to me at least, it didn’t strike me as different or refreshing to be told from the guy’s point of view. The story progressed nicely and there was never really a place to get bored. The mystery behind everything makes you want to read more. The ending was little different than I expected, which is good. I am not sure how the rest of the books will continue on, but I guess I will find out.

My Thoughts: At first, I really didn’t like Shi but he kind of grew on me a little. Carmen not so much. She just seems kind of odd. There seemed to be more intimate and romance moments in this book. However, this is probably my least favorite of the three books in the bundle.

Note: I found while reading the second book, that there will be more books in this series in the future. Also, there is the series that comes before this one. I will be reading neither. The stories are interesting and the world of the story is pretty cool but I want to move on to something else.

My Thoughts: This book was much better than the last. There was more action and romance. I also liked the couple more, even though Kole is seen in a negative light in the previous book.

Wicked Werewolf Night by Lisa Renee Jones

Wicked Werewolf Night

Note: This series is the sequel of Lisa Renee Jones’ Vampire Warden series. I was not aware of this until making this review. I knew something was off while reading it though, so I suggest reading it first.

Blurb: Nico Moore is the leader of of The Werewolf Society’s elite Royal Guard. Aylia Richardson is the witch who calls to the beast in Nico, but destiny has also made her the keeper of a gift that threatens the very existence of his race. To destroy this gift will destroy this woman…the only one he has ever dared to call ‘mate’.

My Thoughts: As stated in the note, there is more to the story. I slightly confused at first, but the holes (at least I hope) were filled during the story. I liked both main characters. I even have accidentally tried to call my new dog Nico, which made me laugh.  There were several characters at the beginning and I had a hard time remembering who was what.

Harry Potter: The Prequel by J.K. Rowling

HP The Prequel

This is a VERY short novella. It is only four pages, and available for free (download from goodreads). I found out about this prequel not too long ago, and I thought it was worth looking into.

It involves James and Sirius when they were younger. It’s been a long time since I have read the Harry Potter series, so I am not sure if this really fit in with anything.

It seems more of a glimpse into the past. However, it was pretty funny and I enjoyed it.

I will not be counting this toward my 2013 book challenge since it was so short.
